Sustainability
Or should we say, Sustannahbility
We take real action to reduce our environmental impact
Fleet
We’re aiming for 100% UK fleet Euro 6 compliance by 2024, implementing initiatives to cut emissions including hybrid vehicles, telematic systems, and route planning software, achieving 6% fuel reduction and gold award for CO2 reduction.
Renewable energy
Stannah's Andover factory features more than 1,100 PV panels, rainwater recovery, and fully renewable electricity; whilst our head office has 36 panels with plans for an additional 98 to be added.
Our people
Stannah partners with IFS systems to track scope 3 emissions, implements hybrid work policy, conducts virtual meetings, and lifecycle assessment to reduce environmental impact.
Our initiatives
Stannah’s redesigned packaging cuts emissions by 37% by eliminating polystyrene, installing energy-saving LEDs, and reducing heating gas consumption by 35%, saving 64 tons of CO2 annually.
Our aim
To reach net zero for our own operations by 2030
Our commitment to sustainability
We are actively improving the sustainability of our operations and have committed to this in our company blueprint and group sustainability policy. We routinely include sustainability in our highest-level governance meetings and have a dedicated ESG committee. Each part of our business is now required to submit an annual net zero action plan.
We have an Elevating Sustainability Network group which includes dedicated sustainability champions. The ESN have developed a poster campaign and are developing a sustainability induction programme. We operate an EV first policy for our company car fleet and offer a salary sacrifice scheme for those on a car allowance. Our telematics system has driven significant fuel efficiencies by monitoring driving behaviour and idling.
We developed a sustainable premises policy in 2023. Sustainability was built into the design of our new Andover factory where we have a large solar array delivering up to 397,000 kWh of green electricity. We have also put A/C controls in place to avoid energy wastage and are close to having 100% of lighting converted to LED. A recent EPC premises audit will now help us to identify further energy efficiency opportunities.
We are on a fully renewable electricity contract (REGO certified). We are also trialling an asset monitoring and carbon accounting platform to help identify further energy saving opportunities.
Circularity and reuse are important to Stannah and for 20 years we have refurbished our used stairlifts to give them a second life.
We share our journey and successes through our company report:
Our factory
Supported by our brand new UK-based factory.
Our new factory in Andover has over 1100 Energy PV panels with the capacity to generate 466,251kWh per year and rainwater recovery in the toilet systems with over 10,000 litres of storage.
